A Billion Stories, Waiting!

Somewhere in India, in a quiet wardrobe, a saree rests.
It was once worn for a wedding, a celebration, a moment that mattered.
It carries laughter, music, movement—memories stitched into every thread.
And yet, it hasn’t been worn again.
Now imagine this, not as one story—but billions.
Across India, an estimated 2 to 5 billion sarees sit untouched.
That is over 1 million tonnes of fabric, resting in silence.
Not discarded. Not forgotten. Just… waiting.
Waiting for a second life.

At Raja Rani, this is where our story begins.

Our core focus is working with vintage sarees, reviving these forgotten textiles and honouring the craftsmanship they hold.

Each piece we create starts with a saree that already has a story.

We thoughtfully transform these fabrics into contemporary silhouettes—kimonos, pareo pants, holiday sets, and more—preserving their essence while making them wearable for today.

And because every saree is unique, we produce in small, mindful batches.
No overproduction. No excess. Just limited pieces, each carrying a past, reimagined for the present.

Sustainability for us isn’t a trend—it’s a responsibility. It’s about making better choices at every step, from sourcing to production, and creating garments that are meant to be worn, loved, and lived in for years.

Nothing Goes to Waste

Sustainability isn’t just about how much we produce—it’s also about how we use what we already have.

Every leftover fabric from our collections is carefully repurposed into scrunchies, headbands, and pouches. These pieces are not just accessories—they are an extension of our commitment to minimizing waste while creating something meaningful and functional.

Our upcycled pouches, often included with holiday sets, are designed to be reused—whether for travel, storage, or everyday essentials.

Re:Play — A Second Life for Your Clothes

Re:Play is our initiative to give pre-loved garments a second life—thoughtfully and creatively. We invite our community to bring in their existing clothes and fabrics, and transform them into elevated, contemporary pieces such as kimonos, pareo pants, holiday sets, and more.

At the heart of Re:Play is the idea of preserving stories while reducing waste. Every garment carries memories, and through upcycling, we reimagine them into something new—without losing their essence.

We especially encourage clients to repurpose their own sarees or meaningful fabrics. Whether it’s an heirloom piece or something you no longer wear, you can bring your saree directly to us and collaborate in turning it into a modern, wearable silhouette.

To begin your Re:Play journey or to request more information, please write to us at contact@rajarani.org

Because what you already own deserves to be worn again, just differently.

A More Conscious Future

We are constantly learning, evolving, and finding ways to reduce our footprint while celebrating creativity.

Sustainability is an ongoing commitment—one that shapes how we design, create, and grow.
